Lord, Come Quickly

This world is often so scary to us adults. I am amazed by the childlike faith my children have that God wants me to have, too.

Today at our Bible story time, we read the story of Jesus’ Ascension where Jesus says he’ll come again in the same way he left. One kid, unprompted, said “I hope Jesus comes back again in my lifetime!” Another kid responded, “me too! I can’t wait. That would be so neat if He came back when I was alive!”

I said, “It’s a scary thing to think about for a lot of people. But you are right! If we are following Jesus, we don’t need to be scared. Jesus coming back soon is Good News!”

I often want to protect my children from hard times and difficult topics. I often want them to have an easy, pleasurable life without difficulty. Without trial.

They remind me daily that God calls us to a child-like faith. God calls us to live our lives looking ahead— beyond this life, with eager anticipation. He will be with us and help us. We are His witnesses and he will give us the courage we need.

Our worldview is shaped by our solid, unwavering belief that we were made for eternity and God is indeed coming back. Every knee will bow low before Him and he will rule with justice, wiping all tears from our eyes. We say in child-like faith: Lord, come quickly!
