Your Labor is Not in Vain
Sundays are always hard for me. The wonderful and the terrible seem to crash into each other in violent ways. It’s the best of times and the worst of times.
I always have doubts. I don’t often doubt God or His goodness.
I doubt myself. I doubt my abilities…to learn language, to teach, to have a clean heart, to abide in His love.
I doubt our friends. Why are they coming? Do they really consider us friends? Or, are they coming because we are American, white, rich, and speak English? Are they only coming for the food? Because we have cute kids?
Are they using us? Do they expect to get something from us?
Are we using them? Are we really showing them pure love with grace and truth?
I have many doubts and questions. And the biggest one:
Is all the work that goes into Sundays…in vain?
This song is such an encouragement to me! What has God called you to? What work is before you today? Whatever God has called you to do is what God wants you to be doing! Be a mom to your kids. Change those diapers and cook dinner. Go to work to provide for your family. Love your grandkids.
“Do little things with great love.”
Your work is not in vain. God is with you. Quit striving. Abide in His love. His grace is sufficient for you.
In whatever work God has called you to, may you find encouragement in this song.

“Your labor is not in vain
Though the ground underneath you is cursed and stained
Your planting and reaping are never the same
Your labor is not in vain
Your labor is not unknown
Though the rocks they cry out and the sea it may groan
The place of your toil may not seem like a home
But Your labor is not unknown
I am with you, I am with you
I am with you, I am with you
For I have called you, called you by name
Your labor is not in vain
The vineyards you plant will bear fruit
The fields will sing out and rejoice with the truth
For all that is old will at last be made new
The vineyards you plant will bear fruit
I am with you, I am with you
I am with you, I am with you
For I have called you, called you by name
Your labor is not in vain
The houses you labored to build
Will finally with laughter and joy be filled
The serpent that hurts and destroys will be killed
And all that is broken be healed
I am with you, I am with you
I am with you, I am with you
For I have called you, called you by name
Your labor is not in vain
I am with you, oh I am with you
Oh I am with you, oh I am with you
For I have called you, called you by name
Your labor is not in vain”
